Doubles

Horse racing has attempted to re invent itself several times over and exotic bets were the thing that really seem to push the sport over the edge. In the early days there were issues with punters only gambling on particular races which left the industry in a position where they either needed to get rid of the races that weren’t popular or figure out a way to make them more attractive to gamblers. Getting rid of those races wasn’t a good idea due to the huge support the sport would lose from the competitors of those races. Over the years many ideas were drafted on how to accomplish this but only a very few stuck. Doubles is an idea that creates value among punters for races that they normally see none in. The idea was that if there were more in it for the punters they would bet on it. The idea developed further into what we know now as exotic wagering.

Business professionals in the sport and in the surrounding gambling industry implemented what are called doubles that create groups of races designated by the race organizer and track owners where special odds are offered on certain races to make them more appealing to the punters. Today there are many different exotic bets but they all started from the doubles.

The Different Kinds of Doubles

The idea turned out to be an excellent one, the main concern before the double was created was that there was no gambling action on the first races of the day. The daily double was introduced as an exotic bet that particularly pertained to the first two races of the day. It is defined as the player must correctly choose both the winners of the first two races of the day which in turn would offer different odds than betting the two races normally. Next there is what is called the late double. The late double is very much the same as the daily double except it particularly applies to the final two races of the day. The thinking behind the late and daily double was mainly that the racecourse owners and bookmakers can keep the punters betting all day long. Finally is the rolling double, it was implemented based on the fact that with the daily and late double in place all that was left were the races throughout the day that surrounded the major ones. The rolling double is where there will be doubles all throughout the day to bet on. Usually this is reserved for races that are less popular among the punters but this is not always the case. The rolling double usually does not apply to the first and last 2 races of the day.

The Other Kinds of Exotic Wagers

Exotic wagers come in many different shapes and sizes especially online. Many of the same types that have been around for years are even more popular online than they ever have been. Doubles are where all of these originated from and even it is still available online. First four is a popular type among Aussie punters, which is where the player must correctly choose which horses finish in the first 4 positions and the order they finish in. Quinella bets are another popular one online; they are when the player must correctly choose the horses finishing first and second but in this type they do not need to specify which order they finish in. One of the most difficult yet rewarding exotic bets is the big 6. This is very popular online because most bookmaker offer very low minimum bets because of how difficult it is to win. In big 6 the player must correctly choose the winners in 6 pre designated races that take place at several different racecourses and times. Online gamblers seem to be what keeps this one alive because of how remote there concentration can be.

Conclusion

Doubles are what started all of the exotic gambling online and what an amazing success they have been. Even still to this day the daily double gets online punters focused on race programs early in the day. The other exotic types have really been catered to those that either are looking to expand there grasp on gambling horse racing or those that are just getting into it. There as minimum bets as low as 10 cents which make for a very enticing decision for those that are scared of risking too much
